Les Contradictions de la Vie

A series of three exhibitions which explores Africa's relationship, influence and contribution to the global language of contemporary art.

The first of three exhibitions features Joel Mpah Dooh, one of Africa's many fine artists who have attracted critical acclaim - a Cameroonian living and working in Douala. Raouf Rafai, Lebanese, is a distinguished Middle Eastern artist based in Beirut, the city of his birth.

In both artists we see an ability to synchronize conflicting elements seamlessly. Merging influences create images which are primitive and sophisticated, ripe with emotion and rich in meaning.

The intersection between these two bodies of work is an opportunity to renew our participation in an African-Arabian dialogue and explore the role of contemporary art in bridging diverse cultures in an increasingly globalized world.
